Gliding

Gliding includes Paragliders, Hanggliders, and Sailplanes The Derbyshire Peak Distinct is a hotspot for gliding in the three main disciplines of paragliding, hanggliding, and flying sailplanes.

The main club for paragliding and hanggliding is the Derbyshire Soaring Club (DSC) and for Sail planes the Derbyshire and Lancashire Gliding Club (DLGC). The DSC is affiliated to the DLGC (i.e. DSC members have associate membership of the DLGC) and uses its base at Camphill , Hucklow for its meetings and has the use of its facilities (including the bunkhouse and bar!).

The governing body for hanggliding and paragliding is the British Hanggliding and Paragliding Association (BHPA), and for sailplanes the British Gliding Association (BGA) Free flight is a wonderful experience and a huge amount of development has gone into the gliders available today. Performance and safety have improved dramatically over the past few years, but to enjoy free flight safely it is essential to train properly.

To do this you should join a school and learn the basics of this absolutely fascinating sport. BUT – BE WARNED: IT’S HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!!
