The Monsal trail is the disused Midland railway line that was closed in 1968 & then recently converted in 2010-2011 into a new cycle track, allowing people to cycle from Blackwell Mill, Nr. Buxton to Bakewell. The eight & half miles follows the river Wye & takes you through several newly opened lit tunnels, between magnificent steep gorges, surrounding limestone hills & across the spectacular Monsal Dale viaduct making this an exceptional cycling experience.
Discover along the way the stepping stones & natural springs, lime-kilns & the old station at Millers Dale built in 1863 where the hustle & bustle of the past are but a distant memory. Spot the cotton mills of Litton & Cressbrook built in the 18th century, here the force of the river Wye was used to power the waterwheels of the mills.

Stop & look down to see the waterfall at water Cum-Jolly, unseen from this view point for over forty years. Cycle on to Hassop Station, where you can enjoy a welcome break at the book store & restaurant.
Then cycling onto the famous Market town of Bakewell where you will find designated bike racks to allow you to park your bike & browse. On your return rest & relax before going home at Blackwell Mills very own Lazy Days Tuck shop where you can indulge yourself with refreshments of Coffee, cake & confectioneries.

TUCK SHOP
Lazy Days Tuck Shop has been a family run business for the past twelve years, run from the garden premises of No.8 Blackwell Mill Cottages, serving a welcome break to many a grateful walker whilst ambling through the great outdoors of the Peak Dales.
The Tuck Shop has now moved premises & has been incorporated into the new Cycle Hire Centre across the way, serving Tea, Coffee & confectioneries in the outdoor seating area.

Alternative access can also be approached on foot along the bridleways of the nearby Beech Croft camp-site & from the above Topley Pike lay-by on the A6.
