Upper Hurst Farm Holiday Park and Gaia Lodge

Upper Hurst Farm is a family run site in a Rural Idyll that is surrounded by hills and is close to the picture-postcard village of Hartington. Our Toilet/Shower block has been likened to a 5* Hotel and our generous Super Pitches (25) and Camping Pitches (15) enjoy almost 360-degree panoramic views over the stunningly beautiful Peak District National Park. We have a family friendly and dog friendly pub within walking distance. Our ethos is nature-based, we encourage biodiversity in our fields and hedgerows and the majority of our energy is provided from sustainable sources or directly from the sun. Animals are now finding us and we have a pair of Alpacas, a resident (free range) Peacock and Peahen, four characterful and friendly mini Shetland Ponies and free range chickens (eggs available). We have resident ‘Little Owls’ (which are not at all common) as well as other indigenous owls. Buzzards are a common sight and one of our campers has photographed a Red Kite here.

 
The toilet & shower block has underfloor heating & showers with unlimited hot water (without press buttons). We have a large wet room which is suitable for people with access needs and we also make it available to families with small children and babies. We have a kitchen area for washing up and a washing machine, dryer and small freezer for ice packs. We mow a huge area in an adjacent field for the children to play where they are extremely safe (we are far away from a busy road) and kick a ball around without caution as it is a good way from the pitches.

Upper Hurst Farm is Rural, yet Central. The market towns of Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek are all around 10 miles from the site offering a wide range of shopping and leisure facilities. We are effectively 10 miles from a supermarket but the grocery shop in Hulme End and the two larger grocery shops in Hartington provide most needs (most of my shopping is done there). Upper Hurst Farm is a Walkers, Cyclists and Nature-Lovers Paradise. We are in the centre of two huge dales and it is just 1 mile to the River Dove (takes you to Hartington, DoveDale or Biggin) and 1 mile to the River Manifold. It is just 1 mile to the start of the Manifold Cycle Trail and about 3 miles to the Tissington Cycle Trail. The Monsal trail near Bakewell and Chatsworth House is about 11 mile.
Upper Hurst Farm is about slowing the mind chatter by tuning out of the mundane and tuning into nature.

This fabulous, cosy barn conversion, that has been described as ‘Compact and Bijou and perfect as a romantic retreat’, can be found 150m away from the family run camping site of Upper Hurst Farm which has been awarded the coveted Environmental Quality Mark award. Gaia Lodge, a former piggery, nestles in an elevated position that boasts panoramic views of the undulating countryside, dotted with natural hedgerows and dry stone walls; so characteristic of the southern Peak District National Park. The warm gritstone cottage has been renovated with much love, with exposed douglas fir king post trusses, stone flag flooring and an outside patio and garden area that is fully enclosed with a dry stone wall. It is enhanced further by fully controllable underfloor heating, a wood burner and its own, completely private, additional decked patio area (SW facing becoming a little sun trap) with a red cedar, wood-fired hot tub, to provide a truly special stay.

 
Upper Hurst Farm has a nature-based, ethos, encouraging bio-diversity in fields and hedgerows. In addition, the majority of energy is provided from sustainable sources or solar panels. Resident animals include a pair of alpacas, a free range peacock and four characterful and friendly mini Shetland ponies. There are resident little owls as well as other indigenous owls and buzzards, and peregrine falcons are a common sight. Swallows and curlews return here every spring.
An area popular with walkers, cyclists and nature-lovers alike, the River Dove is just 1 mile away and takes you to Hartington, Dove Dale and Biggin, via Biggin Dale. It is also just 1 mile to the River Manifold and the start of the Manifold Trail. The Tissington Trail is around 3 miles away, and a dog friendly, food serving pub is within walking distance of the cottage, as is the local village stores. The picture-postcard village of Hartington is just 2 miles down the road and the market towns of Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek are all around 20 minutes from the site, providing a wide range of shopping and leisure facilities. The infamous Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall can all be reached in around 30 minutes, as can one of the country’s most popular theme parks, Alton Towers. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.
