Groups of all kinds will appreciate the location, practical facilities, good home cooking and a friendly welcome at the Nightingale Centre. Cosy, licensed, fully centrally heated throughout, the centre can be enjoyed by all ages at any time of the year.
We cater for a wide range of groups, for example:
Conference & Commercial groups
The Centre’s excellent facilities offer two good sized conference rooms with several “breakout” spaces, excellent sleeping accommodation and quality dining.
Outdoors pursuits groups
Our location on the border of the Dark and the White Peak, close to the Gritstone and the limestone caves, has encouraged many walking groups to use our centre, some year after year.
School and youth groups
The Nightingale Centre has long experience in hosting young people from primary school to University ages. The extensive grounds include a five-a-side football pitch, outdoor classroom and playground area. We provide good indoor learning facilities with well-appointed meeting rooms and equipment. Accommodation is in single, twin or family rooms and/or in dormitory accommodation (with leaders’ rooms adjacent).
The area offers good opportunities for field trips. Great Hucklow is situated at the junction of limestone and shale. Just north of the village is the site of an ancient Iron Age fort and there are disused lead mines in the area. Within walking distance of Great Hucklow is the plague village, Eyam. Castleton which 6 miles away, has a castle and the Blue John caves.
Voluntary, faith and family groups
Our flexible facilities allow us to respond to different needs such as family bookings for weddings and special birthdays. We welcome many different faith and voluntary groups in our peaceful surroundings which has been found perfect for retreats, meditation, yoga and similar activities. The Centre has been a popular venue for art courses and with three good quality digital keyboards available, the Centre regularly hosts music groups.
