Home to the Flower family since 1916 Old House Farm remains a true working farm and is conveniently placed for easy access to many attractions including the famous Blue John and Speedwell caverns at Castleton, Alton Towers, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Matlock Bath. There are several trails that follow the paths of long lost railways which offer disabled access as well as being suitable for exploration by foot or bicycle (cycle hire available at the trail) and the bewildering choice of footpaths that criss – cross this most scenic part of England mean you will never be stuck for something to do. Then again why not just sit back, relax and watch the world go by ?
Piggery Place – with wheelchair access.
Originally housing the farm pigs but converted to a cow shed many years ago it became redundant when animal housing needs changed. It now offers quality accommodation with character beamed ceilings and central heating throughout.Access is well provided for by large, gently sloping ramps complete with sturdy hand rails. The cottage offers two lovely bedrooms- a king sized bedroom and a twin room, both are furnished out in pine. There is sufficient clear space under the beds to allow for the use of your hoist if you choose to bring one. Lots of thought has been given to detail to aid the less able guest without compromise to style e.g. specially designed wardrobes with shelving and lower clothes rails, light switches within easy reach and doors that don’t get in the way.
The shower room offers a wet floor shower with height adjustable shower head, hand support rail, basin complete with lever style taps and the cleverest plug you’ll ever see. The toilet is specially designed for easy access with plenty of transfer space & support rails and an easy to use push button flush.
The living area is open plan with a light oak fitted kitchen with washing machine, electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and all the utensils of a working kitchen provided. An elegant glass display cabinet finishes this lovely kitchen and a pine dinning table and chairs grace the dinning area.
The feature of the lounge area is the oak beamed fireplace with living flame cast iron stove giving the feel of a real fire without the work! Our cosy lounge area to unwind in and a TV/Video, radio/CD/cassette player for your entertainment all help to make your stay an enjoyable one.
Shire’s Rest
As the name suggests this was originally the home of the farm’s Shire horse but with the ascent of tractors has been redundant for many years, occasionally housing a few lambs in spring.
It has lent itself to conversion very well offering a lovely spacious two-storey character cottage for 2/4.
Beautifully furnished throughout with pine.
Upstairs Shires Rest has a double bedroom & shower room including shower, toilet and washbasin, whilst downstairs features a lovely beamed lounge with stone mantel over a cosy living flame cast iron stove giving the feel of a real fire without the work! The comfortable suite is ideal to unwind in and converts to a double bed for any extra guests. TV/Video, Radio/CD/Cassette are provided for your entertainment.
The spacious light oak fitted kitchen houses an electric cooker, microwave, fridge with freezer box, dishwasher and all the utensils of a working kitchen. A Pine dining table and chairs grace this lovely kitchen.
