Common End Farm - The Old Barn at Swinscoe

Common End farm is set in 20 acres of pastureland and surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Peak District. It provides a quiet and rural location and an ideal base from which visitors, walkers and cyclists can explore the surrounding area, villages and attractions. Its central location means that everyone can reach us easily whichever end of the country they are travelling from.

The historic market town of Ashbourne is 3 miles to the east. Alton Towers is 5 miles to the west. The Tissington and Manifold cycle trails are within 3 miles with Dovedale only a 2 mile walk using the network of public footpaths which run adjacent to the site. The village pub is within walking distance and offers an extensive food and drink menu catering for all ages

About the Barn

Accommodation

The accommodation is offered in a converted traditional stone hay barn with some original features having been retained. The barn has been continually upgraded over the  years and offers the space and facilities for 14 guests in 6 bedrooms all with WC and shower ensuite. An additional child /adult  can be accommodated on a sprung slatted campbed and a travel cot.

With oil fired central heating, a log burner in the lounge (installed from mid November 2017) and double glazed windows throughout it provides cosy and comfortable accommodation making it the ideal place to get the whole family together or for larger groups of friends or walking groups.

The accommodation is provided over two floors but the majority of rooms are on the ground floor.

Ground floor

Four bedrooms – there are four bedrooms on the ground floor, two double bedded rooms and two twin bedded rooms. Each room is furnished with wrought iron beds with sprung slatted base.

The lounge – a spacious room with character beams, sofas, colour TV and DVD player, a selection of books and games, tourist information leaflets and a welcome information pack providing ideas of where to eat locally, facilities in Ashbourne etc. We also provide a little treat for your arrival of a complimentary food hamper.

A separate WC and bootroom/store – contains shoe racks, coat hooks, clothes airers, vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board.

The dining room – provides pine dining tables and chairs for all guests. There is also a CD/radio player with ipod docking station.

The kitchen – is large and fully equipped to cater for everyone. A pine dresser provides storage for cutlery, glassware and crockery. Kitchen facilities include;

• Upright fridge/freezer and separate low level fridge
• Electric hob with two ovens
• Microwave
• 4 slice toaster &  kettle
• Selection of pans, oven ware, crockery & glassware
• Basic cleaning/washing up kit, tea towels and oven gloves
• Dishwasher tablets, dishwasher rinse aid & kitchen towel
• Bin liners & Refuse bins (outside kitchen door)

First floor

Two bedrooms – there are a further two bedrooms on the first floor. One room contains a wrought iron double bed with sprung slatted base. The second bedroom is furnished as a family room and contains black wrought iron sprung slatted beds (one double bed and two single beds).

Bedroom/ensuite facilities include;

Laundry facilities

There are no laundry services provided in the barn but Ashbourne has  a serviced ironing and laundry room for cleaning, drying and ironing of all laundry.  located on Buxton Road, DE6 1EX.

Opening hours are:

Serviced ironing and laundry room – 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 12noon Saturday
Within the barn we ask that you refrain from placing wet clothing on the radiators. Clothes airers are provided. Ironing facilities are also available and can be found in the boot room.

Campbed

We have available to hire a sprung slatted campbed, ideally suited to young children. This is required to be booked prior to arrival for an additional charge
 

Baby bundle

If bringing a baby or toddler we have available  a travel cot, highchair, safety gate,  & microwave bottle steamer. Please enquire about availability prior to arrival.

Grounds & outdoor space

Outside, garden furniture is available for guests use on the yard. There is also plenty of outdoor space for children to play. The barn is located off the main road up a tarmac drive and has its own parking for 5 cars in the yard in front of the barn with further parking available.
