Active Grindleford

Active Grindleford … is a programme which aims to get more people physically active through the provision of a range of sport, recreation and social activities available in the village of Grindleford, Derbyshire.
The project was masterminded by the Grindleford Sport, Youth and Community Group with the aim of encouraging local people to take part in sport and enabling them to develop skills not only in a range of sporting disciplines but also in leadership and coaching.
With a total funding of just over £200K, the majority of investment came from Sport England through the national ‘Active England’ programme. The Active England programme represents £108.5 million investment for innovative sporting projects across the country and is managed as a partnership between the Big Lottery Fund and Sport England. Significant funding also came from Waste Recycling Environment Limited and the Peak District National Park Authority.
Active Grindleford facilities and activities are open to all, whether you live in Grindleford or elsewhere. If you live in a nearby village or town, or if you are visiting Grindleford on holiday, you are very welcome to book our facilities and join in any activities or events that are taking place. The facilities are open to individuals, sports clubs, social groups and companies.
Why not hire our fantastic sports court for a childrens party, work based competition or league, or a social game of tennis, basketball or football with your friends? You can also use the pavilion afterwards for a party, refreshments or changing.
Our aim is to create a vibrant, healthy and active village through the provision of a wide range of activities to suit everyone – residents and visitors alike.
We would also like to help and encourage as many people as possible to become qualified as sports coaches, leaders and administrators, thereby improving the quality of provision within our clubs and organisations.
Active Grindleford is a subsidiary of the Grindleford Playing Fields Association. The project is managed by a group of volunteers (Active Grindleford Steering Group) who employ a part-time Sports Development Officer – Paul Whitworth (via Kickstone Recruitment Ltd) to develop sports opportunities and implement the business plan. As a member you will be able to:

• Book and use the new games area as often as you like throughout the year with your friends and family

• Access sports coaching and courses at reduced prices

• Attend activities such as family sports sessions at no extra cost

• Receive regular information about what’s going on through email and newsletters

• Join social activities and develop a real community atmosphere through the clubWe have a variety of facilities at Grindleford Playing Fields and cater for a range of sports, recreational and social activities.
The Playing Fields site comprises:

• Floodlit Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA)

• Cricket Pitch

• Football Pitch

• Car Park

• Children’s Play Area
