A very tiny and unspoilt place Ashford has just one shop but its famous for miles around for its amazing pickled onions and chutneys. To be able to eat locally sourced food is always the healthier option and great for helping out local businesses too. Visiting the delicatessen Roberts of Ashford, the old grey stone building on the corner of the pretty village on the River Wye. Building up a loyal clientele since opening in the year 2000, the pickled onions have become a business in themselves selling to meat outlets and to the trade, but the shop sells ready-made sandwiches, cooked meats, dairy products, preserves, cottages, fresh fruit and vegetables.
There is also a great selection of ice creams during the summer months and is one of the most delightful food shops in the whole region. Shopping for a more variety of products can be found a short bus ride away in the nearby village of Bakewell.
